Kitty's Story - Skiing with Autism
Family Ski Holidays - Kitty Morgan enjoys skiing with her family just like any other young girl
A family ski holiday is an adventure that the whole Morgan family look forward to each winter and for daughter Kitty who is diagnosed with Autism, it is the freedom of being on the ski slopes and enjoying family time that makes it all so special. Kitty’s mother never thought that she would be able to ski but now knows that anything is possible with the right adaptive instruction and accessible ski resort!
Skiing and living with a life-challenging condition such as Autism is never easy but for Kitty is the highlight of her winter! She has now skied in Austria, France and Italy; with Switzerland soon to be added to the list!
The Morgan Family first contacted Catherine Cosby and Ski 2 Freedom Foundation back in 2015 about assisted ski instruction and a suitable ski resort. The family had been skiing in Zell am See for a few years and Kitty had learnt to ski with Skiing4All (based in Zell am See). Since then we have helped out from time to time but as the family are much more confident about where to go and what type of instruction is required, the requests are fewer but they do still come in such as the last minute request for ski lessons in Montalbert (France) for this week (30 December 2019 until the 5 January 2020).
Winter Season 2019-2020 - Montalbert (France) - La Plagne Ski Area
Winter Season 2018 - 2019 saw Kitty and her family skiing in the ski resort of Tignes. This ski resort offers much in the way of adaptive and assisted skiing with specialist instructors from a number of ski schools including ESF Tignes Le Lac and ESF Tignes Val Claret. We have been working with these two ski schools for many years and they and their instructors are well known to us.
Exciting news for Kitty is that she was awarded the ESF 3 star badge for her skiing skills at the end of their week’s ski holiday - many congratulations Kitty and fantastic news!!!!
The Morgan family have been using our comprehensive Library of Information on Mountain Experiences for a number of years and are fully confident about finding a location and ski school to meet Kitty’s needs. From time to time the family will contact Catherine just to check about a particular location or ski school but as they know what they are looking for it is often after the event that we find out where they have been - adding their story to our Portfolio ensures we can encourage other families with an autistic child to have a fully accessible and inclusive ski holiday.
