Winter Experiences Accessible for People with a Medical - Health Condition or a disability

Explore the empowering benefits of participating in a non-sporting activity in the mountains. For many people with a disability or life-changing illness, being in the fresh clean air of the Alps and Mountains is invigorating and enormously beneficial to their health and wellbeing.

The winter can offer something special and truly unique and breathtaking. With many villages and ski resorts offering car free access getting around could not be easier. However in the winter this can be another problem but a pair of wheelblades or helping hands can ease the icy problem!

Often someone having a ski holiday with a disability or physical/sensory condition may not be on the ski slopes for more than a couple of hours and then what to do? We hope that some ideas will inspire you to feel that your winter holiday is totally inclusive.

Getting to your destination and ski holiday can also be a great chance to explore on the way - why not take in the well known Alsace Wine Route or stop off at a Christmas Market. In the winter there are endless things to do from mountain swiss railway journeys to sailing on the lakes - with a few adapted boats for wheelchair users as well and enthusiastic instructors to help you. Horse riding, walking and fishing - so many places are dedicated to helping to make your holiday an inclusive and magical time. Specially adapted lake and river points for fishing mean no one has to stay home! Take a cookery course; develop your artistic streak; accompany family and friends up the mountain - in winter many of the lifts and cable cars offer special prices for non-skiers - take some photos or simple sit and read a book or lay back and soak up the vitamin D whilst waiting for the skiers, mountain bikers, hikers or snowboarders to meet you for lunch!

Assisted mountain activities offer an accessible holiday or trip for everyone but participation and level of involvement will depend on the nature of the disability, additional needs, general health and well-being and cognitive, visual and audio state.

Over 150 years ago the Swiss Alps began a long history of helping people to heal or come to terms with their illness. There is a holistic and healing element to be found. Who can but open their arms when confronted with the majesty of a snow peaked range of mountains; the crisp air; blue skies; call of the Marmotte; ringing of the cow-bells and not take a deep breath - immediately on doing so one starts to feel calmer and with time that element starts to heal us.

With all that is on offer here like sport, well-being, food and music come and explore and let us help you to rehabilitate, rejuvenate, relax and establish a renewed sense of self-esteem and confidence.

There are an enormous number of non-sporting experiences and guides, to be found around the world, whose expertise, empathy and enthusiasm are waiting to help you! - either with or without specialist equipment.

So what are you waiting for? Click on one of the activities that interests you and find out more about what you can do for yourself or for a family member or friend and start of journey of self-discovery, laughter, excitement and memories!
