A year-round destination for inclusive and accessible empowering holidays, the Monts Jura region Pays de Gex, also has some amazing ski resorts: Mijoux - La Faucille; Lélex - Crozet; Menthières and the nordic specialist area of La Vattay.
When it comes to skiing, there are currently two emerging trends: there are those who always want things bigger, higher, more hyped-up, more connected, more bustling…and, of course, more expensive because of that. On the other side, the lovers of authenticity, of «less is more», ski purists in search of resort-villages exuding an intimate and harmonious feeling, always aware that beneath this discrete façade there lies an offer that meets the very highest standards. In this regard, Monts Jura makes no concession whatsoever in either the quality or the aesthetics of its pistes. This is a factor that has not gone unnoticed by the French ski team who consistently select this resort for their training camps and competitions.
This is, by far, the sportiest resort. People come here for the quality of the pistes, Alpine or Nordic, and its unparalleled views across the Ecrins Massif, the Swiss and Austrian Alps, Lake Leman and the Bay of Geneva. Seen from the Swiss city it is hard to believe that just twenty or so kilometres away the very best Alpine skiers are preparing to go off and fight for medals. It is sometimes compared to Les Rousses because of its family-friendly feel, its gentle, reassuring slopes and a fierce desire to preserve an environment that has been truly blessed by nature.
From Lyon, it takes a little under an hour and half in the car before you can slip on your skis. From Paris, this snowy paradise is just a train ride way. Once you have dropped off your bags and had a look around you can quickly navigate from one ski area to the other thanks to the Ski-bus. You can select your site according to your ability or how you feel on the day: it is at Lélex-Crozet that the most proficient can perfect their swings and turns, seeking out thrills, style and technical challenges. Because of its guaranteed snow, its slopes that range from technical to gentle, this ski area is sure to delight free-riders, snowboarders and even kite-surfers just as much.
As for families, they will happily choose Mijoux-La Faucille or even Menthières, two ski areas that are ideal for finding your rhythm in perfect tranquillity.
