The South Tyrol - Süd Tirol: Wheelchair friendly, ideal for all - family ski holiday; adaptive skiing and snowboarding; walking and other experiences for those with Parkinson's, MS, Autism, visual impairment, cognitive, sensory or physical needs - It is the ideal place to come and re-charge! It is located in the Northern Italian Alps and borders with Austria. Part of the Austrian Hungarian Empire and only incorporated into Italy after WWI, this region is unique in its heritage, culture and language. An area of outstanding beauty, it also forms part of the famous and iconic Dolomite Mountains.
Historically it stretches back beyond the Roman Times and the route up through Italy and then over the Brenner Pass into Austria continues to be a main route for people, visitors, business and trade - used by the Romans and Napoleon's army, the old coaching inns and hotels continue to offer hospitality and shelter for visitors - many still owned and run by the same family.
People come to this region for its warm welcome, amazing food and wine, and life-empowering experiences - walking, skiing, culture, history, food, wine there is something for everyone whatever your age! And, what is so special is that many of the experiences are also wheelchair friendly. There is still much to do but the overall positivity and enthusiasm by the locals to make this very much a fully accessible and inclusive region is to be commended. There is no doubt that one's health and well-being will be enhanced by spending time here!!
There are many different villages, towns and valleys that make up the 'Süd Tirol' region and we are delighted to give you an insight into these - including the different experiences, places to stay and activities such as ski schools that offer adaptive snow sports. For more indepth information on any of those featured please contact catherine.cosby@mountains4all.org for our Brochure.
The 'Kronplatz Region' of the South Tyrol - Süd Tirol - is based around the historic town of Brunico - Bruneck in the Northern Italy Alps. There are many wonderful villages that offer exciting and life-changing experiences and activities throughout the year. In the winter there is adaptive skiing and snowboarding to be found both in the Kronplatz Ski area itself and the 3 Zinnen ski area just up the valley (they are not connected) but the local bus and train runs regularly between the villages so makes for an easy time!
If you, a friend or family member have any of the following then Kronplatz Region might work brilliantly for your ski or summer holiday. This is by no means an exhaustive list (it would be impossible to include every condition) but many have similar or common factors. As often someone may have a condition that we have not yet come across please do ask us if you are interested in the resort and we can try to help.
We do advise that if you have any health issues that might be affected by extreme temperatures; altitude or have had surgery or an on-going physical / neurological condition that might be or could be affected by being moved at speed, over rough or uneven terrain or being on or in a ski lift please do contact us for more advice before going ahead and booking your holiday. Another resort might work better for you.
Click here for more information on specific conditionsKronplatz Region has a great selection of hotels, apartments and chalets suitable for all visitors. If a place is listed below it will have been visited by Ski 2 Freedom or will be personally known to us. The South Tyrol - Süd Tirol - is a region that is dominated by family run hotels. Many have been run by the same family for over three or four generations. Hotels dedicated for children and young families are also a great feature for this region but it is the warm welcome and personal service offered by a truly dedicated family run business which Mountains 4 All knows will be the core element for any visit to the region - whether for adaptive or assisted skiing, snowboarding and other winter sports or at any other time of the year when a short or longer break will bring enormous health benefits.
Many are wheelchair accessible and have the Italian Certificate for Celiac Disease whereby the kitchen offers a menu and food suitable for all such conditions.
Hotels, apartments and some chalets are all either with a free shuttle bus or within easy distance of the ski slopes - normally the local bus stops outside and this is free with the hotel guest card.
A family run business with enormous charm and a very warm welcome.

Mountains 4 All provides specific information on the activities for skiers with a disability, additional need or life-challenging illness, etc. plus useful extras such as wheelchair accessible places to stay; so we are not going to also reproduce amazing information and advice on ski resorts which has been collected by ski journalists, skiers and ski companies which are dedicated to this service - what we can do is to link you to these sites which may well give you some extra background information on a specific ski resort and help you make up your mind as to where you might go!
