Assisted Mountain Activities in Chamonix Mont Blanc

Overview

Assisted Mountain Activities in Chamonix Mont Blanc

Chamonix has lots to offer for people with disabilities and reduced mobility. The town is very easy to get around. There are lots of new bars, cafes and restaurants that are wheelchair accessible. While it does get a bit quieter during the inter seasons (May-June and Oct-Dec) Chamonix is a year round resort with many activities available year round. The world famous Aquille du Midi cable car is open most of the year, where you can experience stunning views of Mont Blanc and step into the void - a glass box hanging off the side of the mountain! Not for the faint hearted!

The region of Chamonix Mont Blanc also includes Argentiere, Vallorcine and Les Houches.

The tourist office has a very useful on-line guide for wheelchair access in Chamonix.

La Chaumière - ★★

Website Email Phone: + 33 (0)4 50 53 13 25 Suitability Information

Suitability

  • Family friendly
  • Open all year

La Chaumière Mountain Lodge is absolutely devine and offers the most for people wanting to come and explore Chamonix and the nearby villages. It is not suitable to stay here if you are in a wheelchair as there is no lift but the staircase has a good handrail and would be perfect if you can climb stairs because everything else about it is just wonderful. This is a small hotel that evokes the history of Chamonix, the Epoque age of people coming to walk, climb or for their health..... and now in the 21st Century it still holds charm and warmth!

Every room has a view of the mountains - the entrance hall has a nice cosy sitting area. The bar area again has a good comfortable sitting area and the restaurant is superb for its open but cosy space with view of the Mont Blanc and Aguille du Midi............ what more could one want for a short break or longer!

Open both summer and winter with an excellent menu, both for dinner and breakfast. The owner Tarja Nordstrom is originally from Finland but has spent some years in Sweden and now resides in Chamonix. Her staff are superb and overall I could not make a high recommendation but to come and stay! Even if you are staying else where in Chamonix and are a wheel-chair user, then come and have dinner here as the ground floor is accessible although no loo for wheelchair users.

An extremely good value hotel to stay at. Both the No. 1 bus and the train are located just up the road (approximately 100m). There is also some parking.

"The realisation of La Chaumière Mountain Lodge is the culmination of a family dream. We have a long history of managing hotels and restaurants across Europe and our unique experience and expertise has enabled us to create this home from home in the heart of the Chamonix Valley. Following a refurbishment program, La Chaumière continues to have the sporty and relaxed atmosphere developed by its former owners, but now has a fresh Scandinavian touch!

The Mountain Lodge is a real mountain home offering a unique fusion of Scandinavian simplicity and functionality mixed with charming alpine style. La Chaumière is in an enviable location, within walking distance of the main shopping street, in the old town centre of Chamonix Mont-Blanc and just a stone's throw from the train and bus stop. When you stay at La Chaumière you are literally steps away from some of the world's finest mountaineering, skiing and hiking.

With rooms facing either Mont-Blanc or Brevent, we offer a wonderful base camp for all types of explorers. Some of our rooms have private balconies facing the Mont-Blanc range, but all our guests can enjoy our peaceful garden behind the hotel.

The warmest of welcomes awaits you at La Chaumière. Our efficient service will exceed your expectations, our local knowledge and insight into Chamonix and the surrounding area will ensure that you have simply the best holiday. With a network of specialist mountain guides we are able to organize a host of different activities, from one week mountaineering courses to the ascent of Mont-Blanc.

Groups are warmly welcomed and the "Book Your Own Hotel"- concept is a specialty for companies or bigger family events and parties.

We look forward to seeing you very soon."
