Donation received from Tobell Family

Swedish donation for Ski 2 Freedom

It is with enormous honour and delight that Ski 2 Freedom is able to announce that we have received a very generous donation of 1,000,000 Swedish Krona (£92,000.00) from Mrs. Inger Tobell, in Sweden, in memory of her husband, Ernie Tobell.

Ernie Tobell, born in May 1934 and died in September 2008. He was a remarkable man with a very special empathy for people with a disability especially children and young people.

Director and Founder of Ski 2 Freedom, Catherine Cosby, says: “This is such a wonderful event for Ski 2 Freedom and having met Mrs Tobell in Stockholm, I am humbled by the work that her husband did to encourage people with a disability or sports-injury to reach out and gain something constructive from sport which encourages a sense of self-esteem and hope for the future. The Tobell family have shown such confidence in what Ski 2 Freedom is achieving and to accept this remarkable donation ensures that we can really try to make a difference to the lives of some amazing young people by sharing our love of the mountains and winter sports – all I can say is THANK YOU so very much!”

Ernie Tobell

“His mother Doris was born in in Cardiff (Wales) and his father was born in Stockholm, Sweden. He was married for 44 years to Inger. They had two children – Helena and Lars and two grandchildren Lina and Lisa.

He became a physiotherapist and specialist in sport-injuries. Ernie Tobell was also a very clever businessman. He loved all kinds of sports.
He attended 12 Olympic Games for Sweden as the head of the physiotherapist team.

His family now wants that his donation will reach many children with a disability.” Inger Tobell, May 2012 Lidingo, Sweden

The Tobell Ski Camp

Ski 2 Freedom is delighted to announce that this donation will be used for a very special Ski Camp project to enable young people who have suffered the loss of a limb(s) due to cancer, meningitis or trauma to find self-confidence and, we hope, a new skill which may well take them to the Winter Olypmics in the future and the existing work of the Foundation. The Tobell Ski Camp will include those from Wales, Sweden and Switzerland to reflect the elements associated with the Tobell family and Ski 2 Freedom.
