French Travel Awards - Runner-Up Best Ski Tour Operator 2012

Ski 2 Freedom is Voted No. 2 Best Ski Tour Operator France 2012

ATOUT France – The French Travel Awards 2012 - The WORKSHOP FRANCE 2012 ended with a Gala Dinner at which the TRAVEL AWARDS for BRITSH TOUR OPERATORS were presented by Bill Turnbull, BBC Breakfast News presenter.

This is the first time that Ski 2 Freedom has entered for the French Travel Awards and was voted No. 2 Best Ski Tour Operator 2012.

Ski 2 Freedom would like to say an enormous thank you to all our partners in the French Mountain ski resorts – especially the ski schools, and instructors for the handiski, as well as the tourist offices and lift operators.

“Thank you, Thank you!!!! To be recognized by ATOUT France is the most wonderful accolade for Ski 2 Freedom and a tribute, not only to the determination of so many children, young people and adults whose lives are affected by a disability, special need or life-changing illness to enjoy skiing and winter sports but also to the growing success of all those who dedicate their time in encouraging skiing for disability in the French mountains.

It is always so humbling to share the experiences of anyone who participates in winter sports and being awarded No. 2 Best Ski Tour Operator 2012 is an enormous boost to our morale and an encouragement for us to ensure we really do continue to provide the best information on disabled skiing in France. It has put disabled skiing in France on the map and we intend to keep it there and hopefully next time Ski 2 Freedom will be the winner!!” Catherine Cosby, Director and Founder, Ski 2 Freedom Foundation

Further Information on Ski 2 Freedom:

Ski 2 Freedom works in close partnership with ski schools and French Tourist Offices to promote the activities that can be provided from on-piste, off-piste, ski touring…………

Ski 2 Freedom provides a comprehensive resource of information on snow-sport and mountain activities tailored to meet the specific needs and requirements of people with a disability or special need so that they, family or friends can have an independent choice of location and activity. Once a ski school or resort is identified the Foundation is able to sign-post individuals and groups towards the organisations which will help bring together all the components required for someone to experience the ultimate joy of being in the mountains in winter.

Ski 2 Freedom was founded as an independent non-profit organisation, in 2007 by Catherine Cosby whose daughter –now 26 – suffers from a rare neurological disorder, Rett Syndrome and is profoundly physically and mentally disabled, to help promote access and participation for skiing and snow-sport activities in the mountains to children and adults who have a disability, special need, life challenging illness or medical condition and for those whose lives are directly or indirectly affected by such conditions who live in the UK, Europe or Worldwide.

Catherine’s own experiences have given her a passionate understanding about using snow-sports and the mountains as a catalyst which can help children, young people and adults who have been affected by a physical, sensory or mental disability to regain self-confidence, become physically pro-active leading to a general sense of inclusion both within a family, local community and wider society environment and the possibility of equal employment opportunities. She understands the many complex needs and requirements of an individual with a disability or special need and why matching those needs with a ski school or instructor and resort is so vital to the overall outcome of a holiday.
