Donation to Ski 2 Freedom Foundation in loving Memory of Christopher David Bennett who very sadly died on 21st June 2019 from a condition nobody could have known that he had (Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy).
It was with enormous gratitude but tinged with sadness that we received a most generous donation from the parents of Christopher Bennett who had chosen Ski 2 Freedom to be one of two recipients of donations made at Christopher’s funeral - the family wanted to honour one of his favourite things…….. Skiing and a love of the mountains. The other chosen charity was Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
Their son loved skiing from his first outing on the snow - in Lapland at the age of 8; meeting Father Christmas was supposed to be the highlight of his trip but it seems that Chris had other ideas and the excitement of skiing took over!!
During his gap year, he went to Canada to train as an instructor then taught in Australia over the summer, and he spent his term breaks from University teaching for Interski in France and Italy.
Skiing was not Christopher’s only passion as he tried many different sporting activities - canoeing, shooting, archery, rugby, athletics, rock-climbing, surfing, sailing, go-karting and his other love - motorbikes! His parents used to joke that if he didn’t need to wear some sort of safety equipment, then he wouldn’t be interested in doing it!
Catherine Cosby, Founder of Ski 2 Freedom, wrote to Mr. & Mrs. Bennett
It is with enormous gratitude that I write to thank you both so very much for the very generous cheque received in Memory of your son, the late Mr. Christopher David Bennett. As with all donations, it will help to enhance the lives of such courageous families who face serious life-changing conditions – many are life-limiting – and so I know from the bottom of my heart that his memory will most certainly live on through the lives of others enjoying the magical snow and mountains. But, I also realise that you must be feeling a great sadness at your loss and do please accept my sincere condolences at this time.
I always believe that when one life departs, another life receives a bit of extra special strength. The mountains are such a spiritual place – often difficult to explain – but our souls are linked in this majestic place. Our thoughts are with you both, and Christopher will always have a special place in the heart of our work - thank you so much.
If others would like to support our work in the same way then do please get in touch with Catherine personally catherine.cosby@mountains4all.org
